SEPTA (Special Education PTA)

HELLO AND WELCOME BACK!  SMITHTOWN SEPTA is the Special Education Parent Teacher Association for all 9 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools and pre-k children.  Our primary function is to be an advocacy and support group for parents, children and teachers.

SEPTA's membership includes parents, teachers and other professionals dedicated to service children with special needs.  SEPTA is open to all parents, teachers and staff members that share our interest, helping every child meet their educational goals.

Special education students include children placed in special classes (Self-contained), integrated (inclusion), resource room, out of district (BOCES/private special education school), or receiving speech, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), or counseling services.

SEPTA meetings and workshops are scheduled throughout the school year.  This year we will be hosting more roundtable discussions in lieu of speakers in order to give us adequate time to discuss issues that affect our children and to foster an environment of sharing information and solution building that will benefit all.

Your membership fee of $8.00 goes a long way in helping our association.  The majority of our budget funds scholarships for graduating seniors, and maintains an extensive collection of resources available at the main branch of the Smithtown Library.  Membership is open to all.  Being a member of SEPTA gives you the opportunities to support children with special needs and their families.  We hope that you will join us along with your school's regular PTA.
